Fleas are a nuisance for both dog owners and the dog. Not only does it make your pet miserable but it can also cause havoc in the house. If the problem is not taken care of immediately, you may find flea eggs in your carpet, furniture, and other parts of your home. While there are many ways to handle the problem, the best option is to prevent it in the first place. Aside from using sprays, there are many natural ways to prevent ticks and fleas on dogs.

• Apple cider vinegar:  Apple cider vinegar offers the best solution when it comes to maintaining the pH levels of your dog. All you need to do is to take four cups of water and add six cups of apple cider vinegar. To this solution, add a pinch of sea salt. Make sure your dog’s coat gets a generous spray of this solution. Always be sure to avoid the area around the eye.
• Neem oil:   Neem oil is a natural insect repellent and is thus extremely effective in keeping the pesky fleas at bay. It is a common home remedy for various issues in Burma, Sri Lanka, and most parts of India. Once you obtain it, you can either rub it directly on your dog’s coat or mix it in with an organic shampoo. You can also dilute it to use it as a spray.
• Aromatherapy:  The therapeutic qualities of fragrant oils are well-known. It not only treats flea infestations but also prevents further occurrences. Applying these oils on the scalp and coat of your dog will remove the fleas. It is one of the best natural ways to prevent ticks and fleas on dogs. Sweet almond oil is known to be very helpful in such cases. Take this as the base oil, add a few drops of atlas cedar, geranium, lavender, bay laurel, and common myrrh oil to this. Massage this onto the dog’s coat.
• Lemon water baths:  Lemons are the perfect solution for most of our problems. In this case, a lemon water bath is one of the best natural ways to prevent ticks and fleas on dogs. Take half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon and add two cups of water. To this mixture, you can squeeze in your dog’s organic shampoo or soap. After a bath, your pet will not only smell fresh but will be flea-free too.
• Make your own flea spray:  Several essential oils can easily help you take care of the flea infestation by yourself. It is truly one of the best natural ways to prevent ticks and fleas on dogs. Rosemary, Citronella, Peppermint, Tea Tree, and Eucalyptus oils are known as insect repellents. Add a few drops of these oils in water and spray it directly on the dog’s coat. Keep in mind to not use the oils in their undiluted forms.
